Gluten Free Heart Calzones

Ingredients
Dough
  • 1 package (7.5 oz) Chebe Pizza Crust Mix
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil or organic canola oil
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (sharp or hard works best) firmly packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 Tbsp water
Filling
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 clove pressed garlic
  • 1-2 Tbsp fresh basil, shredded
  • 1 cup ground Italian turkey sausage, cooked and drained
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Marinara for dipping, optional
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 400F

  2. In a large bowl, beat the eggs before adding the shredded cheese and 2 Tbsp of oil.  Mixing well with a fork, slowly add the Chebe Pizza Crust mix.  Stir well with a spoon before adding 4 Tbsp of water.

  3. Mix as well as you can with a spoon, then knead the dough with your hands until smooth.
  4. Roll out pizza dough to 1/4 inch thickness.  Cut out hearts using a heart shaped cookie cutter (or freehand with a knife).

  5. Combine mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce, garlic, basil, sausage and salt & pepper in a bowl.
  6. Spoon the sauce mixture on one dough heart.  Place another dough heart over the filling and seal the edges using a fork. (Be sure to not get the edges of the dough wet with the sauce as it will make sealing more difficult.)

  7. Transfer to a lightly greased baking sheet and spray the calzones with cooking spray or brush with oil.

  8. Bake for about 18 minutes or until golden brown.  Remove and serve with marinara sauce.
